Passavant® BioFlex Tube Diffuser Bioflex V PHI

Passavant® BIOFLEX is a flexible tube diffuser engineered for high-efficiency aeration in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. Its fine-bubble membrane technology ensures excellent oxygen transfer while supporting both continuous and intermittent operation. The diffuser consists of a threaded support tube, replaceable slitted membrane (available in EPDM or silicone), and secure sealing components to prevent backflow and ensure stable performance.

Silicone membranes are particularly suited for industrial applications due to their smooth surface and high resistance to oils and chemicals. The BIOFLEX system is easy to install on rectangular air distribution pipes and can be tailored to various tank geometries and airflow conditions. Proven in installations worldwide, BIOFLEX offers a durable, low-maintenance, and cost-effective alternative to ceramic aerators.

Function Design

The Passavant® BIOFLEX tube diffuser is designed to provide efficient fine-bubble aeration for biological treatment processes. When air is introduced, the slits in the flexible membrane open and release thousands of micro-bubbles into the wastewater. Upon stopping the airflow, the membrane seals tightly against the support tube, preventing water ingress into the aeration system.

This double-sealing mechanism allows for safe and reliable intermittent operation, offering greater flexibility compared to ceramic diffusers. The system can be adapted for a variety of process conditions by selecting EPDM or silicone membranes, depending on the wastewater composition. The silicone variant is particularly resistant to fouling from fats, oils, and industrial compounds.

With its modular design, the diffuser can be easily mounted onto rectangular distribution pipes and integrated into new or existing aeration grids. BIOFLEX combines high oxygen transfer rates with low energy consumption, ensuring stable and effective performance in both municipal and industrial applications.

Key Features

  • Flexible tube diffuser with fine-bubble aeration for high oxygen transfer efficiency.
  • Available in multiple lengths (550, 800, 1050 mm) and membrane materials (EPDM or silicone).
  • Slitted membrane design enables automatic opening during operation and tight sealing when idle.
  • Supports specific air flows from 2–10 m³/h per meter (EPDM) or 2–8 m³/h (silicone), adaptable to process needs.
  • Resistant to clogging and chemical attack, especially in industrial wastewater environments.
  • Low pressure loss reduces blower load and operating costs.
  • Robust support tube and connectors made from ABS or stainless steel for long service life.
  • Designed for intermittent or continuous operation without performance loss.
  • Quick and secure installation via threaded connections to rectangular air distribution pipes.
  • Widely installed in municipal and industrial WWTPs, including aerobic tanks, equalization tanks, and leachate treatment.
